SOUTH WEST PAEDIATRIC CLUB

Category: Training - Other

Date: April 11th 2016

Location: Education Centre, BRHC

Welcome to Bristol for the winter meeting of the SW Paediatric Club. We hope you will be able to join us for this meeting.

Morning session: “Creating positive relationships with patients and families”. During this session we will

  • hear learning points from the Bristol heart enquiry
  • learn how to deal with complaints
  • understand how patient organisations (children’s transplant sport) promote health
  • explore how and when to involve psychologists in medically perplexing patients

Afternoon session: “Pretty vacant – a crisis in paediatrics?”

In the midst of the junior doctor’s contact dispute and post Brexit, medical staffing in the UK has never been more uncertain. The latest RCPCH workforce survey has found more than 1 in 4 senior paediatric trainee posts are now vacant. We have invited representatives from the BMA, RCPCH, trainees and the department of health to join in a discussion on the future challenges to our profession.
